Interview with Diego Fermin







1)First of all,..can you present yourself..?

1)I’m Diego Fermin and I make drawings. I hope you enjoy it.

2) Do you think of yourself as an artist, or what?
2)Yes, sometimes but mostly I think of me as a failure

3) What is creativity?
3)I’m not creative enough to answer in an original way

4)Does your environment influence your art,either in style/format or interference?
4)Sure

5)What are some of your influences and inspirations?
5)Toys, TV cartoons, all kind of graphics, peculiar people, pets… the Garbage Pail Kids

6)What’s your favourite mediums(pen,charcoal,paint,canvas,etc…)to work in/on?
6)Ink and paintbrush, markers…

7)Who are some of your favourite painters/artists?
7)Some of them are good friends as Stephane Blanquet, Nefario Monzón or Isidro Ferrer. I also admire the work of Otto Dix, Goya, Gary Baseman, Robert Crumb, Sasek, Jim Flora…

8)How long does it normally take you to complete a piece of your artwork?8)Hours, weeks…

9)What else are you interested in besides visual arts?
9)Toys, big butts, amateur porn, Mr. Show…

10)Got any new projects planned?
10)Yes, I’m working on a book.

11)How would you describe your art to someone who could not see it?
11)A situation involving pants up to the armpits, fake noses, poodles and a corpse.

12)What other talent would most like to have?
12)I would like to become invisible or talk with my stomach impersonating voices.

13)What are your most beloved items?
13)My toy collection

14)Favourite books?
14)Yes, many. But there’s always a few special: Mon Mechant Moi, A Confederacy of Dunces, The Mischievous Art of Jim Flora…

15)Do you remember the first draw you made?
15)No, but I remember the first drawing I sold when I was 10 (maybe). I was commissioned by a classmate to make a comic-strip rip-off of a famous character named Rompetechos (a sort of Spanish Mr Magoo).

16)What kind of music do you like and do you listen…And is the music important for your art…?
16)Not especially important, I listen a lot of music of everykind while I work, I also listen to the TV or radio.

17)Any advice do you have for artists?
17)No, it’s me who needs advice
