Interview with Zoltron




1)First of all,..can you present yourself..?
1)I am Zoltron. I have a wave hairdo and a unique accent.

2)Do you think of yourself as an artist,or what?
2)I guess so...

3)What is creativity?
3)The act of using your imagination to make something ripping, shredding or otherwise gnar gnar rad.

4)Does your environment influence your art,either in style/format or interference?
4)Lately my environment has been 105 degrees. The only influence I've had is to bathe in ice water.

5)What are some of your influences and inspirations?
5)I like distress, rust, urban blight, antiquated objects of randomness, rips, cracks, tears, sepia.?
I am influenced by creative people, my kids, and men and women with mustaches.

6)What?s your favourite mediums(pen,charcoal,paint,canvas,etc?)to work in/on?
6)Paper, ceramic, photoshop, soil. In no particular order.

7)Who are some of your favourite painters/artists?
7) like William T. Wiley's work a lot. I'm lucky to have a few of his pieces.

8)How long does it normally take you to complete a piece of your artwork?
8)Sometimes hours, sometimes days, or weeks.. Depends on the piece.

9)What else are you interested in besides visual arts?
9)fire.


10)Got any new projects planned?
10)Initial sketch phases of working with StrangeCo on making a Zoltron vinyl toy sculpt, working on lots of street paste ups, and random design shiite..
and I'm building a cobblestone wall from stones I bought off of a hunter's point, RV-driving, pitbull-owning san fancisco?Transient who?
Uses a homemade styrofoam floatation raft and hand picks 100 year old, barnacle-covered sf earthquake cobbles out of the bay at low tide.

11)Pornography.
12)What other talent would most like to have?
12)I'd like to be an dusty extra in Deadwood.

13)My 2 boys, nikko and wiley... And my mustache.

14)Here's the last few i read... "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell." "Dark Fields" by Alan Glynn.?
Right now I'm reading a book published in 1926 called "you can't win" an autobiography?about? aAopium addicted,
freight hopping hobo traveling around the wild west.

15)Do you remember the first draw you made?
15)I don't. my mom kept a lot of my drawings from when I was a kid.

16)What kind of music do you like and do you listen?And is the music importan for your art??
16)I'm really digging Madame Blavtaski overdrive. Thom York's new cd, Eraser. Joe Brussard'sDownIn The Basement, a collection of pre war blues. Plastikman atifakts.
They've been the only cds I've been listening to for the past month or so. Working and listening keeps me inspired and motivated.

17)Any advice do you have for artists?
17)Try to do something creative everyday, even if it's tying your shoes with duct tape.?
